Oldham

Oldham already has a strong urban food growing identity through the Northern Roots project. Leveraging this, the community participants were already well aware of the benefits and joy brought about by growing your own food.

The participants were eager to develop an idea that sat within the grounds of Alexandra Park; a large public park in the centre of Oldham. They developed their ideas based on a simple pergola, which used vertical space to grow food and allowed people to pass underneath the structure. The project included rain water capture, growing shelves, raised beds, and full height strings to grow climbing plants up.

The project is now constructed as an entrance way to the Growing Hub in Alexandra Park, which provides volunteers with a space to grow plants and food.
